My wife and I are expecting our second child in about six weeks. With a soon to be three year old at home, a baby on the way, and a budget to follow we have had to sacrifice some of the things we really enjoy doing. A couple of weeks ago the folks over at HowAboutWe reached out to us to try out their service claiming it was specifically designed for couples and it could offer a specific DateBook geared towards pre-planned one-of-a-kind experiences near us. They also said they could provide dates for any sort of budget that would make any couple happy. We are located just outside of New York City where finding fun nights out on a budget usually don’t go together so we though we would see what they had to offer. I have to say I was very impressed with their selection. They had everything from wine tasting, to Broadway shows, to classic car rentals. With a pregnant wife anything that was geared towards a night out of food and drink wasn’t going to work out all that well, but there was a show we had both been wanting to see for some time – Once.
A tony Award winning musical on Broadway has been out of our price range for a while now and we used to enjoy one or two a year. This show was offered to members on the site for $80 for a couple. If you compare that to the actual price of the tickets on Telecharge it was a huge savings. The seats we received were right orchestra, row O, on the end aisle and pricing those up if were to buy them on their own was nearly $300. The cost of membership to HowAboutWe is only $22 per month with no commitment. So if you factor in the cost of membership and the tickets you only have to spend $102 on two tickets to the show. We also were able to enjoy a nice dinner near the theater which made a for a great date night within our budget.
Another great feature I have seen on the site aside from the savings and variety is that they have flexible dates and also offer several free date options each month. A program that offered great date opportunities, but weren’t flexible wouldn’t work for my wife and me. If you are a parent of young child that has to arrange for child care, feeding the kids, work schedules, and everything else that comes along with being aren’t you need to have some flexibility. They even had some options for in home dates – cooking lessons or guitar lessons anyone? Want rewards? Well membership has some additional benefits. In addition to the free dates, 75% off on some great dates, access to sold-out tickets, and member only events you also have access to special rewards that can save you even more money.
Thanks to HowAboutWe my wife and will be able to enjoy a date or two each month. When you have kids you know how important it is to find some alone time with your spouse. Some time where you can just enjoy each others company and do something that doesn’t involve a bouncy castle, video games, or a mouse giving you pizza. If you are looking for something fun to do there is nothing wrong with doing it and saving some money at the same time.
